Our mission is to help farmers accelerate and profit from the transition to a more sustainable food system.

We've seen first-hand how challenging it can be to produce high quality food in a financially and environmentally sustainable way. In these challenges, we see opportunities for tremendous impact through purpose-built technology.

Fyto was launched out of MIT in 2019 to develop a new process for nutrient recycling and protein production. The Company is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area with operations in the San Joaquin Valley. The team is comprised of engineers, scientists, and business professionals with decades of experience creating solutions for more economical and environmentally-balanced food systems.

A note from our Founder

In 2019 I felt compelled to bring Fyto to life. I’d spent more than a decade commercializing various innovations in the energy sector;  I’d also spent more than 5 years running backyard experiments with aquatic plants, driven by my own curiosity. I became convinced that by developing the method to grow these tiny, floating, solar-powered protein factories at scale, the world could gain a potent new weapon in the battle to keep humanity alive and well fed. It was equally clear that I couldn’t do it alone.

I have the privilege of working with some of the brightest and most driven individuals one could imagine on a problem of staggering importance - how will we continue to feed a growing population on a planet with finite resources? Each day, I have the opportunity to learn from my teammates, our customers, and our partners about all the ways our solution could underpin a sustainable food system. The vision of cultivating a protein-rich crop that lowers greenhouse gas emissions without the need for arable land, synthetic fertilizer, or labor is coming to fruition. I’m immensely proud of what our team has accomplished thus far and energized by the critical work ahead of us.
